The Calcutta Golf Classic

The Calcutta Golf Classic 2023

Castleknock Golf Club - 19 May 2023

In Partnership with

After a very successful sold-out inaugural event in 2022, the Law Society is once again hosting a golf tournament as part of the Calcutta Run fundraising effort in 2023, and we would like as many law firms as possible to get involved and hopefully enter teams!

This tournament will take place in Castleknock Golf Club on Friday 19 May 2023 (further information below).

We have revised the format of the event a little this year to make it more accessible and avoid slow play. The format will be a 4 person ‘texas scramble’ competition (see further details below). We will also be using 10-minute tee time intervals this year, which again should help avoid any delays in play.

We would like to ensure there is as much diversity of participation as possible in this event. In particular, we would like all teams to ensure there is at least one female golfer per team if possible. Scoring advantages apply to teams with female golfers (see below on format).

This event will be a great opportunity to bring your team, your colleagues, your clients or your friends for a fun day out and help raise money for two great charities!

Competition Format

Tee times are available from 10am to 4.30pm on Friday 19 May 2023 (10 minute intervals).

The format is a ‘Texas Scramble’ which involves the following:

  • 4 golfers per team.
  • A GUI handicap is not essential (we will assign you a handicap for the day if needed)
  • All golfers on the team tee off on each hole.
  • The team can select the best of the 4 shots for the position for the next shot.
  • The process is repeated until one team member sinks the ball.
  • So the team as a single strokes play score on each hole.
  • It will be necessary to use at least 2 tee shots for each team member over the course of the round.
  • Handicaps – the handicaps for the teams will be calculated as follows:
    • Add the handicaps of all team members together and divide by 10% (for all male teams) or 15% (for teams including at least one female golfer).
    • For the purpose of the above calculation, maximum handicap for men is 21 and maximum handicap for women is 28.
    • If you do not have an official Golf Ireland handicap the team captain can assign handicaps for the purpose of the above calculation (subject to the above caps).
    • If you have an official Golf Ireland handicap, you can use your playing handicap for Castleknock Golf Course for the purpose of the above calculation.
